Public transport in Moscow is rather cheap, you can go by any of its kinds: underground, bus, trolley coach and cars, fixed route taxi, simple taxi. The most popular and convenient kind Is underground. Tickets can be bought on the stations at the ticket windows of Moscow Underground. Trains arrive every 2 minutes and in the evening the intervals can be changed to 10 minutes. Despite of metro being very convenient mode of transport in the rush-hours it can be overcrowded.

There are four types of public road transportation in Moscow: trams, trolleybuses, buses and vans. These are the least expensive ways to travel around the city, while allowing you to become acquainted with the.

Trams are a traditional feature in the city centre, although they can also be found in some outlying areas of old Moscow, for example in Izmailovo and Cheryomushky.

Trolleybuses operate throughout the city more or less everywhere.  There are very few buses operating in the centre, but they are frequent in the newer areas, including those that have spread beyond the Moscow Ring Road, where they are the only means of public transportation. While the Moscow Metro is renowned for its clear layout, road transportation is something different.  There are many reasons for this, including a lack of proper means of transportation, Moscow's traffic jams, minor traffic accidents, irresponsible drivers and cars parked on the tram tracks.  As a result, predicting how long a trip will take is extremely difficult.  Your bus may arrive in five minutes or you may have to wait for half an hour. Lanes reserved for public transportation have just recently been created in Moscow. This has improved traffic, but during rush hour motorists still frequently break the rules, and public transportation is slowed down because of heavy traffic.

Fares for public transport change frequently. In September 2012, a ticket for a tram, trolleybus or bus costs 25 roubles if you buy it at a ticket booth located near a stop or 28 roubles if you buy it directly from the driver.  It is best to buy tickets at a ticket booth, which will save you not only money but also time.  If you intend to use road transportation several times, it is best to buy tickets once for the required number of rides.  There is not a ticket booth at every stop, and in the evening many booths are closed. Board a tram, trolleybus or bus only through the front door; the other doors are exits.  The front door is equipped with a turnstile and a sensor that will check your ticket.  Because of this, passengers board one by one and boarding at a crowded bus stop may take several minutes.  When buying a ticket from the driver, it is best to pay with the exact amount in order not to delay the process. An unwritten rule of courtesy is that you should move away from the aisle and doors, especially if you are travelling a long distance.

There are many films depicting Moscow pickpockets operating in public transportation.  Today, however, there is less danger because pickpockets prefer to operate in markets and large shopping malls.  Nonetheless, you should not keep money or documents in your back pockets or in jacket pockets.  In a crowded bus there is a risk to lose all these. Shuttle vans offer transportation on almost all popular routes.  Their identification number often matches the number of the corresponding bus or tram, but to avoid confusion, it is better to check with the driver.
Shuttle vans are noticeably faster than buses and trolley buses, travel more frequently and can deviate slightly from the main route in order to avoid traffic problems, if necessary.  But they also have disadvantages.  Reckless drivers often disobey traffic rules for extra money.  If a van leaves from a Metro station, the driver will not leave until all the seats are occupied.  As a result, the wait can be up to 15 minutes.
